DO SOME GOOD WHILE TREKKING

Trekkers don't take part in ignorant and irresponsible 'voluntourism'. We encourage our fellow Trekkers seeking to do good to educate before they engage.

Being well-meaning and having good intentions isn't enough, it's only the first step. It's up to us to ensure our volunteer roles don't do more harm than good. Here are some causes that are close to our hearts, that also have tangible ways for you to get involved while in D.R. that are needed, wanted, sustainable and respectful. Check out our favourites below, and if you have an opportunity to do some good to suggest, send us a note here.

Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic
...more to come!
...more to come!

"Dogs and Cats of the Dominican Republic (DCDR) is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization whose mission is to significantly improve the health and welfare of the dogs and cats of the north coast of the Dominican Republic.  Our mission will be accomplished through the commitment and compassion of our volunteers.

Volunteer efforts will incorporate hands-on assistance, education of pet owners, residents and tourists, and provision of basic medical support which will include parasite treatment and emergency medical care.  We will also provide foster care and find forever homes for animals in need, provide emergency pet food supplies, and strive to reduce overpopulation via spay/neuter programs.

We are committed to an unparalleled community outreach program that connects our experienced volunteers to both the animals, and the Dominican and Haitian people. DCDR will also act as good stewards of our contributors' donations, and strive to foster community spirit and partnerships with individuals and local businesses for the benefit of all." -www.dogsandcatsdr.com
