OUR STORY

OUR MISSION
Advocating for responsible, respectful and authentic alternative travel across the island of Hispaniola.
Read: We want you to visit this island, have a wickedly unique adventure and be nice while you’re here; choosing to backpack instead of suitcase.

OUR STORY
We’re two Canadians who fell hard for this incredible island. Sharing our travels and “things we wish we knew”’s in hopes of inspiring others to travel here, and tread lightly on a soil that is not ours but one we are privileged enough to visit.

I’m Miranda, the one who takes care of this blog. It’s the result of an aha-moment in the middle of a forest in Samana in a hammock amongst the trees. I tend to get carried away, and here we are a few months later with a domain name secured and another trip on the horizon.

Kate’s my partner and exactly the kind of person you’d want to travel with: up for anything with an aversion to planning ahead and a die-hard commitment to living in the present. Kate has a keen eye for design and takes care of our photos and marketing and tag teams social media with me.

Eddie’s our sassy four-legged fur baby and has absolutely nothing to contribute to this blog except for this cute picture.

We really care about this island and its people and hope that this is one small way we can contribute to its economy, and perhaps shift a few perspectives along the way. It’s so important to respect where you are travelling and recognize the impact your presence makes. We hope you’ll learn a thing or two from this blog and consider backpacking Dominican Republic and Haiti with an open mind and heart that is yearning for adventure.

Currently, we’re living in Ottawa, ON Canada with dreams of calling Dominican Republic home one day soon.

To get in touch for any reason, e-mail us at hello@trekhispaniola.com and you’ll hear from us when we’re able to get back to you.
